Operant Solo publishes reviews, comparisons and tutorials about automation and AI tools for solopreneurs and small teams. This page explains how we research those articles, how our ratings work, and how affiliate links fit in, so you can judge our recommendations for yourself.
What we look at
- Hands-on use. Where we can, we build real workflows in the tool (for example, n8n and Make scenarios) rather than summarizing marketing pages.
- Pricing from the source. Prices come from each vendor’s own pricing page on the date we checked. Plans change often, so always confirm the current price before you buy.
- Real use cases. We judge tools by the jobs solo operators actually need done: lead handling, email parsing, client onboarding, AI agents and voice receptionists.
- Limits and trade-offs. Every review covers where a tool falls short, not only what it does well.
How our ratings work
Star ratings are out of 5 and reflect the verdict of the specific article they appear in. A tool can score differently in two articles when the use case is different. For example, Zapier scores lower in our AI-agent review because of per-task AI pricing, and higher in a general comparison.

Vendors do not pay for placement, do not see articles before publication, and cannot buy a higher rating. Keeping articles current
AI and automation tools change fast. We revisit our most-read articles regularly and mark them with the month they were last updated. When pricing or features change, we update the article rather than leaving outdated numbers in place.
Corrections
If you spot an error, an outdated price or a missing tool, please tell us through our contact page. We fix confirmed errors promptly.
